Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (anti-NMDAR) encephalitis was not infrequent in our hospital; however, the MRI characteristic was not typical and the clinical outcomes after therapy were poor in some patients. Therefore, we tried to investigate the brain MRI characteristics of anti-NMDAR encephalitis and their associations with clinical outcome at a 2-year follow-up.

For our article, we enrolled 53 patients with anti-NMDAR encephalitis and performed a 2-year clinical follow-up. Half of the patients had normal brain MRI, and the presence of hippocampal lesions was associated with poor outcome.

Since the article was published, neurologists have paid more attention to the brain MRI manifestations. They have considered and would like to validate our MRI classifications during their clinical practice.

We keep enrolling more subjects in a multicenter study to enlarge samples to verify the results. Additionally, we have performed structural and functional analyses in patients with anti-NMDAR encephalitis using advanced MRI.

We are writing 2 papers regarding the further analysis and new patients. One paper will be submitted soon.
