What's New with AJNR? - AJNR News Digest
January 2013
Introduction

What’s New with AJNR?

Mauricio Castillo

Mauricio Castillo

Twice a year, we prepare a newsletter for AJNR’s Editorial Board members, updating them on the latest changes to our publication. Because significant improvements are scheduled to occur on January 11th, I decided to employ our News Digest to inform our general readership of some exciting updates to expect in this new year. After just a few months, the Digest is receiving about 200 views per day, meaning that each month it already reaches a much wider audience than just AJNR subscribers and we’d like to share our plans with all of you.

A brand new look will enhance not only the print version of the Journal next week, but also our Web site and eventually related portals such as our blogsite. The fresh, standardized design will further unify these products and allow for immediate visual recognition of AJNR’s cross-media publications.

We are happy to report that these advances in presentation format will envelop even more science. In 2012, nearly 93% of all articles submitted were reports of original research. This is a big leap from 2006, when just 54% of manuscripts we received were original research. Our acceptance

rate is about 26% overall, a level we hope ensures that only the best in the neuroimaging literature appears on our pages.

Perhaps the biggest change in store for 2013 is that we will begin to publish AJNR every month (in 2011 and 2012 we published 11 issues and before that our frequency was 10 times per year).

Also in the works this year:

  • By popular demand, the Health Care Vignettes will be back twice per year. The Senior Editors and Executive Committee of ASNR feel that this is a good way of keeping our membership informed of socioeconomic changes that may affect the clinical practice of neuroradiology. New in 2013 will be a series of Genetics Vignettes that will begin in September.
  • The Senior Editors and Editor-in-Chief will rate all Original Research articles accepted for publication in AJNR next year to select the Best Research Article of 2013. The winner and 4 runners-up will be announced in early 2014.
  • We have received several applications for our Editorial Fellowship, which is available to young neuroradiologists who wish to learn how the Journal works. We will select one individual and announce the recipient during the 2013 ASNR Annual Meeting in San Diego. For those who are interested in applying, please visit http://www.ajnr.org/site/misc/Junior_Editor.xhtml.

We hope you are as excited as we are about all these changes and the plans we have to continue to ensure our publication remains the most innovative in the field of neuroimaging. Please take some time in the next couple of weeks to visit our Web site and thumb through your print copy and let us know how you like our new look.
